Southampton Jet Lag Journal
A last-minute weekend getaway was calling my name in the form of Southampton. I love this little Hamptons hamlet like an appendage. I grabbed Kyra, my latest book, and a LIRR ticket and made my way to Uncle Danny’s house. Years ago, he bought a house in need of some love and care and has spent every waking moment since upgrading and renovating it. Initially, he rented the house every summer to friends, but now lucky relatives (like me) and clingers-on (like Kyra) get to enjoy his beautiful taste. Check it out:
When Uncle Danny first started working on the house, the backyard was a huge hill of concrete and dirt. He carefully transformed it into the lush oasis that we now enjoy while taking a dip!
The nationally-famous Tate’s Bake Shop has their one and only storefront in Southampton, where you can buy coffee and croissants in the morning, sample their brand new gluten free cookies that are going gangbusters, or – my favorite – bring home a chocolate dipped ice cream sandwich to enjoy by the pool.
Main Street is an idyllic place to spend the afternoon. Both it and all the residents look like the best America has to offer, with window shoppers, dogs out for a stroll, and locals reading their morning newspapers outside on the benches.
We love the Village Gourmet Cheese Shoppe for their truly delicious sandwiches. Kyra and I ate half on Main Street and saved the rest for our trip to Coopers Beach the next day.
Among many favorite shops in town, Homenature is at the tip top of the list. Check out our visit to the store.
