Cape Cod Jet Lag Journal: Mmmmm, Bakeries

Summer on the Cape

A scone and a cafe au lait in the morning.  Oh, it just gives you a reason to get out of bed, doesn’t it?  Wellfleet has its share of excellent bakeries, and I like to visit two.  The Flying Fish Cafe is a little yellow house with delicious baked goods, my personal favorite being the Cape Codder, a blueberry/cranberry scone that is baked fresh every morning.  I can taste the buttah now.

PB Boulangerie is a hugely popular bakery, and whether you arrive at 7:00 am (which I have) or at 11:00 am (which I have) you will wait in a line that snakes out the front door and down the ramp of the little pink house.  And it does not move quickly, so bring your own damn coffee while you wait in line for coffee.  But what luxury – you’re on vacation, so why not stand in a long line in the sunshine in anticipation of a pain au chocolat, hmmm?
